Why a business plan is so important to have Part 2: The Financial Plan.....

So here I am writing about the financial plan. Let me first start of by saying that I am not trying to scare you, only provide you with cold hard facts.

Investors could really care less about the rest of the business plan. What they care about is the financial projections. How are you going to pay them their money back. If you were loaning someone money would you really care what they did (morally and legally of course) as long as they paid your money back plus the agreed upon interest.? Of course not!

There are 4 things that should be in every business plan:

12 Month Profit and Loss Projection

Remember, this is one of the most important parts of the financial plan. Here you will determine what it required to make your business profitable. You will need to project your sales, cost of product sold, expenses, and profit for one year. You should add a narrative statement explaining in detail how you came up with these figures. And it better be good! To make sure, keep detailed notes during your research.

Projected Cash Flow

This is the heart of your financial plan....how you will maintain enough cash flow to pay your bills. This is where you will explain your start-up expenses, operating expenses and savings. After you're done, keep this around and update it often. This way you won't be in for a surprise later because you didn't create a new plan and follow it.

Opening Day Balance Sheet

A balance sheet is also one of the most important financial statements that your business will need for financial management. A balance sheet shows what items of value are held by your business and what its debts and liabilities are. When liabilities are subtracted from assets, the remainder is owners’ equity.Use a startup expenses and capitalization spreadsheet as a guide to preparing a balance sheet as of opening day. Then detail how you calculated the account balances on your opening day balance sheet. Sound fun right! Thought so.....

And last but not least, is the headache of all financial projections.......the break even analysis! Don't get too excited and rush to it, ....you'll have plenty of time with it.

Break Even Analysis

A break-even analysis predicts the sales volume, at a given price, required to recover total costs. In other words, it’s the sales level that is the dividing line between operating at a loss and operating at a profit. An you have to show it in the form of a graph too.....

Well now that you have very basic information...what are you going to do. I suggest one of two things.

1. You can call me and me and my accountant will take this project off of you hands.....

2. You can sign up for my and write it yourself with my help by visiting our webinar enrollment page
It's up to you...either way I'm here to assist

Why a Business Plan is so important to have!
As many of you know I am a business plan writer and virtual assistant. Writing your business plan is the first and most important step you must take to ensure the success of your business. I have heard many people say "I don't need a business plan...I don't need funding". Obtaining a loan is only one reason why you need a sound business plan.

For starters a business plan forces you to take a realistic look at your idea and business goals. Some ideas are great in your mind, but when put down on paper, you may realize that it was much more than you expected.

Start-up costs versus projected revenues, legal requirements, employee salaries, management, marketing strategies, and the location need to be evaluated prior to starting your business. I have worked with many clients who thought they had a great idea, until they saw the financial projections. Once they realized that their idea did not make sense financially, it was then time to create a new plan of action to make their dream a reality. Sometimes all you need to get going is a new stategy, and a business plan will help you do this.

My favorite section of the business plan is the marketing plan. Why? Because that is what will bring exposure to your business entity needed to meet projected revenues. Without this you are destined to fail. Many people think that the marketing plan means advertising, but it covers so much more including ecomomic factors.

•What is the total size of your market?
•What percent share of the market will you have?
•Current demand in target market.
•Trends in target market—growth trends, trends in consumer preferences, and trends in product development.
•Growth potential and opportunity for a business of your size.
•What barriers to entry do you face in entering this market with your new company? Some typical barriers are:

High capital costs
High production costs
High marketing costs
Consumer acceptance and brand recognition
Training and skills
Unique technology and patents
Shipping costs
How will you overcome theses barriers?

How could the following affect your business?

Changes in technology
Changes in government regulations
Changes in the economy
Changes in your industry

These are important questions to ask yourself before investing any of your time or money. I know this sounds overwhelming, but that's why I am here to help! Contact me today!
